Layth Mula-Hussain
Layth Yahya Ibrahim “Mula-Hussain” [born in Feb 18th, 1975, Mosul/Nineveh-IRAQ], is a physician (MB ChB, Mosul 1999), certified in radiation oncology (Jordanian Board, Amman 2010; ESTRO Fellow, London 2011; Fellowship, Calgary 2012), in advanced oncology (MSc, Ulm 2012) and in clinical investigation (CCI, Ulm 2011) with interest in palliative care, cancer research and oncology education. Currently, Dr. Mula-Hussain working as a consultant radiation oncologist (April 2013 to date) at the Zhianawa Cancer Center (public, academic, tertiary radiotherapy center) and a program director of radiation oncology (March 3014 to date) at the Kurdistan Board for Medical Specialties, Iraq.
From clinical point of view, Dr. Mula-Hussain is familiar to manage cancer patients based on an evidence-based and multidisciplinary approaches for adult and pediatric tumors; Technically, he is familiar with CT-simulation based 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT with Cone Beam CT), Gynecologic “Intracavitary”, Ocular “Plaque”, LDR Seeds Prostate Implant Brachytherapy, X-Knife/Linac based Stereotactic Radio-Surgery, Total Body & Total Skin Irradiation. As visiting scholar, he exposed to Cyber-Knife, Proton Beam Therapy, Tomotherapy, Hospice & Palliative Care.
From achievement’s point of view, Dr. Mula-Hussain is the founder, trainer, training supervisor then director of the 1st High Specialty Training Program (Board) in Radiation Oncology in Iraq [accredited by the Kurdistan Board for Medical Specialties] (April 2013 to date). He is the first physician from MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region who passed the requirements and examination to be an ESTRO Fellow “EF” (the prestigious distinction of the “European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology” for outstanding achievement in educational and research activities in radiotherapy and oncology) (May 2011). At the same time, he is the founder of the Mosul Oncology Society (May 2005) & the founder of the Iraqi Society for Radiation Oncology (June 2014).
