Kumari is a dedicated professional, with ten years’ experience as a medical graduate at the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, specializes in public health and she is currently working as a post- doctoral trainee under the supervision of prof. Sue Evans. Dr Kumari completed her MD in 2013 through the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. Her thesis investigated risk factors for breast cancer and based on that she developed a low cost tool to identify the high risk women for development of breast cancer, in Sri Lanka. Dr Kumari’s main interests are to strengthen cancer control and preventive activities in Sri Lanka, streamline the cancer registries and investigate more about women’s cancer including breast and cervical cancer. While she was working at the National Cancer Control Programme at the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka she involved in developing national guidelines for primary health care workers on breast and cervical cancer. During her traineeship, Dr Kumari is studying the Prostate and Lung Cancer Registries and work with the registry team to evaluate health outcomes and investigating more on prostate cancer. She is seeking to contribute her experience, skills and expertise to the cancer control and preventive activities in Sri Lanka.
