Aung Ko Win
Dr. Aung Ko Win is a medically qualified genetic epidemiologist at the Centre for Epidemiology & Biostatistics of The University of Melbourne, and the Centre for Cancer Research of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Australia. He is an Early Career (Clinical Research) Fellow of the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council. His primary research area is the risk assessment given an individual's personal, family history, genetic, and environmental and lifestyle factors, by applying advanced epidemiological and statistical skills and techniques to large international datasets. His research is aimed to achieve personalised risk assessment to enable targeted risk-based screening and clinical management (precision health). His research has been mainly focused on colorectal (bowel) cancer: determining the risks of cancers for people with inherited genetic mutations; investigating the genetic and environmental modifiers for their disease risks; and predicting disease risk based on a wide range of risk factors. He has published more than 110 papers in leading international journals such as JAMA, JCO, JNCI, Gut and Gastroenterology. He is a Co-Investigator of the Colon Cancer Family Registry and the International Mismatch Repair Consortium, which are the two largest international resources for colorectal cancer research. He has actively contributed to the scientific community as a member of national and international clinical guideline committees and a reviewer of national and international scientific journals and funding agencies. Dr. Win has achieved multiple prestigious awards throughout his career, including the 2013 Premier’s Award for Health and Medical Research, in recognition of his research in the field of colorectal cancer.
